Javascript Minify

• Eliminate unnecessary spaces or line changes.

• Adobe Dreamweaver MX or later (compatible with: DW6/MX, DW7/MX 2004, DW 8, Dreamweaver CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS6).

• Double click the MXP file to install it.
• Access the Javascript Minify from the "Commands Menu >> Javascript Minify" or "Document toolbar >> Javascript Minify"

On the internet, where files are downloaded from a remote location, every byte counts; the smaller are the files, the faster they will be downloaded, which in turn will result in a swifter website.

Websites have evolved significantly during the years; they are always more complex, recurring extensively to javascript for navigation as for data validation or in order to achieving remarkable visual effects.

Many authors studied and developed different algorithms to minimize the size of javascript files (eliminating unnecessary spaces or line changes), among these authors we can name specifically Douglas Crockford with JSMin, Dean Edwards and his Packer tool, YUI development group with their YUICompressor, and others.

These tools exist independently from a web editor, making its use more labor consuming. DWBooster development group's undertaking was to create an extension for Adobe Dreamweaver based in some of these algorithms. Using this extension, it is now possible to minify files without abandoning Adobe Dreamweaver, obtaining extremely light files which can be downloaded from a web server really fast.

Note: We recommend to minify the javascript files only when you are about to publish onto your webserver, and not during development. You should always create a backup copy of the javascript file that you intend to minify: this process is irreversible and the comments, as well as the code indentation, both indispensable for a correct understanding of the code, will be eliminated.
